Participation in the Searchlight® Virtual School requires a parent or legal guardian to initiate and complete the enrollment process.
After the enrollment form has been received by the Searchlight® Virtual School, a representative will contact the parent or legal guardian on file to review the information. At this time the parent/legal guardian will have the opportunity to voice any questions or concerns.
A notification of acceptance into the Searchlight® Virtual School will be e-mailed to the parent/legal guardian and the child’s registered parish.
When notification of acceptance has been received, a parent or legal guardian may purchase the Searchlight®Subscription Plan. Click on the “Subscriptions” button at the top of the screen and choose "Youth Division" from the dropdown menu. Prior to ordering a Seachlight® Subscription, carefully review the information provided, as refunds are not permitted. Please print your subscription receipt as proof of payment.
A Searchlight® Subscription Plan is necessary for receiving and downloading the online class materials. Purchase the appropriate subscription plan before registering for the classes.
An electronic registration form must be submitted prior to beginning each class. When the registration form is received, the appropriate class materials will be sent to the Adult Facilitator's e-mail address. These materials will be sent as PDF attachment(s).
In order to receive the Youth Evangelizer Certification, the appropriate classes for each level (Basic or Intermediate) must be completed.
The classes should be completed in the order provided below. It has been estimated that the classes can be completed comfortably within the following timeframes:
Basic:
Searchlight On Faith: The Basics -- 4-6 weeks
Deepening Your Knowledge and Faith in the Person
of Jesus Christ -- 8-14 weeks
Confimation: Seven Symbols in One Sacrament -- 1 hour and 15 minutes
Intermediate:
The Contemporary Issues Course -- 1-3 weeks
Building A Culture of Life: The Church's Social Teachings -- 6-8 weeks
The Scorpion Files: Lies Satan Tells to Young Catholics -- 10-15 weeks
Students may elect to complete the classes in shorter or longer timeframes than those suggested above. Each subscription plan is good for one year.
Enrolled Searchlight® Virtual School students will receive electronic Certificates of Completion after the required course materials (worksheets, quizzes/tests) have been submitted and accepted by the Searchlight® Virtual School. Course completion certificates will be issued by the Office of Catechetical Leadership and Youth Ministry Formation, Diocese of Palm Beach. Certificates should be printed and kept on file for future reference.
Certificates of Completion are forwarded to the Parish Catechetical Leader (i.e. Director of Religious Education or Coordinator of Youth Ministry) of the student's registered parish. For students outside the Diocese of Palm Beach, certificates are mailed directly to the Adult Facilitator, unless the diocese is an Independent or Affiliate Participator. For participating dioceses certificates will be sent according to the agreement established between the diocese and the Searchlight® Virtual School.
When the required courses for either level of the Youth Evangelizer Certification are completed (Basic or Intermediate), the Diocese of Palm Beach (or the participating diocese) will issue the Diocesan Youth Evangelizer Certification.
